Where the Wild Things Are

Last night after getting the kids in bed Brett and I decided to watch "Where the Wild Things Are". Last week we moved a tv into our bedroom...we haven't' had one in our room for years but we thought it would be fun to be able to watch movies in bed together. (you know you're getting old when you'd rather do that then go out on a Saturday night!) So we made our coffee, put on our sweats and crawled into bed for a movie and a snuggle. About half way through the movie Phoenix woke up...I think he woke himself up coughing. Brett rocked him and put him back in bed. He got up again. For a second time Brett rocked him and told him to stay in bed. And he got up again. Every time he got up he had been saying he was hungry...which we didn't pay a whole lot of attention to because that's his current excuse every time he gets out of bed at night. Well "hungry" and "boogies" are the top two excuses.
So instead of putting him in bed I scooped him up into our bed with us and opened a cup of oranges (which are one of his favorite foods). I had already offered him a chocolate chip cookie, yogurt and pears which he said no to. So he spent the next hour snuggling with us, eating and bouncing around on our bed while we watched the movie in the dark.
I'm sure there are a lot of things that we are supposed to get out of "Where the Wild Things Are, but more than anything it spoke to me about understanding my kids hearts. And about loving their little hearts. Last night Phoenix needed to be in bed sleeping. And Brett and I needed some time together without kids. But more than that, we need to pay him a little extra attention. Since my kids are so close in age (18 months apart) they rarely get time with us alone...they do everything together. This is a good thing a lot of the time...they have their own built in best friend and play buddy. But sometimes they just need something a little extra from us. How sad it would have been we had missed out on this chance to spend time with our son.

sweet sleep...

This last week I bought this Canopy high loft mattress pad at walmart for our bed. Oh. My. Goodness. It is AWESOME! I seriously never want to get out of my bed. I bought it because I've been wanting a down pillow top mattress pad...but they're expensive and I just have a hard time justifying spending that much money on something for my bed when my kids grow out of clothes and shoes left and right. Seriously. Anyway, I thought I would let you know so that for $40 you can all run out to your local walmart and buy the best sleep you'll ever get!

Phoenix woke up bright and early this morning at 4:30am. I have the most awesome husband in the whole world. He got up and rocked Phoenix and when P. still wouldn't go back to sleep he eventually put him back in his bed and let him fuss. Phoenix cried from about 5:00 to 5:30 am when he figured out how to climb out of his crib. He showed up by the side of our bed "Climb out. Crib. Climb out. Crib." He was so proud of himself. The amazing thing is that he shares a room with Zadie and didn't wake her up with all his fussing. Needless to say, he's been a basket case all morning. I'm considering putting him down for his nap already and it's not even 9am. I'm also not so happy that he's figured out how to get out of his crib. Maybe it's a fluke. Hey...I can hope!

I've been feeling sorry for Vino lately. The poor dog loves us to pieces...but it's been so cold and wet outside lately that we haven't really gotten out to play with him. He does get to come inside sometimes, but he's so big and hyper (he's still a puppy) that he tends knock people over (mostly the kids). But today it's supposed to get up to 50 degrees so I'm thinking that we can spend a good long time outside playing with him.

My church is doing something called My Fellowship Journal. Every morning they post some scripture on their website and encourage all of us to read it. Then one of the pastors posts their thoughts on the passage. I have been reading it every morning and I like knowing that I'm reading and meditating on the same things as my church family. If you want to check it out the website is http://www.myfellowshipjournal.com

Ok, that's about it for now...I hope you all have a great Wednesday!

A fresh start...

There is something so great about a fresh start! So this is my fresh start :)

Today I am sick. Swollen glands, stuffed up nose, no energy kind of sick. My kids are feeling under the weather too. Both kids have runny noses and Phoenix has been really crabby...which isn't all that normal for him. He's usually a pretty happy kid. I just put him down for his nap (praying that he sleeps long and wakes up feeling better), and Zadie is sitting in the rocking chair watching Tinkerbell. Today is going to be another pj's and movies kind of day. There is always a lot that needs done around here, but it will keep.

Today as I was rocking Phoenix to sleep (yes, I still rock my 2 year old), I looked down into his sweet little face and was overwhelmed (again) with love for him. What a precious gift he is. It's hard to believe that he's 2 already.

And Zadie...oh what a character she is! She keeps us on our toes with her independence, stubbornness and affectionate nature. Oh, and the things that come out of her mouth! I'm going to have to start writing down more of what she says...she really keeps us laughing.

That's it for today...if I want a shower I need to get it while Phoenix is sleeping, and my window of opportunity is slowly vanishing!
